THE ART OF “SENATOR” STEPHAN WATRIN FROM HAMBURG

My friend, “Senator” Stephan Watrin, lives in Hamburg’s most scenic quarter called “Schanzenviertel” since decades. He also runs a small basement shop in the neighbour area named “Karolinenviertel”. He’s an artist too. Check his website (regrettably only available in German), which is about his flat that he prefers calling “Museumswohnung” = Museum Flat: http://www.stephanslust.de/

Here I like to show a collection of my own photographs that I have made on different occasions:

  1. The man andc his environments are the embodied “Off Scene” in my view. If you ever come to Hamburg, Germany, don’t miss the opportunity paying his places a visit. He’s 66 now, and nobody knows how long he’ll be able to continue with his task keeping both locations alive!

    1. That’s a valid opinion. Recently he’s seems to be a little frustrated because of not being recognized widely as an environmental artist and all. That’s what I think. I used to call him “Wire Man” for his almost possessive habit wrapping all kinds of items in copper wire. I’ll add five new pictures here on a daily basis until we’ll have enough of him.

      1. My own environment I call “Bärkhang” which means “house of Bär” (khang comes from the Tibetan language). It’s quite different from the Senator’s:

  2. From the window in pic # 03 you would see this building now. It’s the so-called “Rote Flora” which, of course, means “Red Flora”. Red in this sense here describes the political standpoint of those who run the place, namely VERY LEFT!

    1. I hope that business will turn out somehow satisfying these days before Christmas. A few years ago the Senator used to create his own wax Santas and sold them for one € the piece:

      1. This little work I did in 2008. It’s lost now. I had used those bright yellow wax Santas and some paper rolls I had bought from him at the shop:
